The Devil’s Arithmetic by Jane Yolen Gathering Background Information Assignment One

The Task part 1 1. Research your topic using the following links. On your own paper complete the KWL chart before and after you complete your research. 2. Create a collage using facts, pictures, charts,… you collected about your topic. Feel free to add handwriting, drawings, etc. Insert these pictures into your web. Click here for a sample collagea sample collage 3. On the back of your collage, write a paragraph summarizing the information you learned about your assigned topic.

The Story You are going to read about a modern twelve- year old girl who time travels to a Polish village during the 1940’s era to experience first-hand what her family has been through. This is both realistic and historical fiction ( the events in the novel could have taken place, but the events are fictional). Before you read The Devil’s Arithmetic, you should have some background information about some things mentioned in the story.
