Problem A grid can be considered a set of (loosely coupled computing) resources. Jobs are added to a queue as processes. They are executed using scheduling algorithms. Job management commands include: –add a job –delete a job –list jobs –search for a job –add or remove a dependency How can the administrator of a grid effectively manage and/or reschedule the execution of job tasks and track their progress given set of resources and constraints?
Solution Using Microsoft Project o Project management software used by managers to make plans, track progress, assign resources to tasks, manage budgets, analyse workloads, etc. Users should be able to submit jobs, which will be reflected in a Gantt chart The administrator should be able to effectively modify the schedule by changing dependencies, or deleting bars The front end should send a schedule (task/resource assignment through time) to the back-end for execution. The back-end sends resource and progress information back to front end, which get updated

Status Reviewed prior solutions: Prior customizations of Microsoft Project, the Microsoft Office System and the Microsoft Project product line (clients and server capabilities, programmability, architecture), VBA, WSA, VSTO, etc. Implemented and debugged Nick Swan's Code, which shows that visual studio can be used to manipulate Microsoft Project. Still need to find a way to customize the graphical user interface, which should display a time-line but no table for the Gantt chart. Double clicking on a bar should show execution information. After that, I will try to create a link with the mediator through web services. By sending XML changes, both the front and back end will receive updates.
