Our plan for Health Task Group

The NHS is working to help people with learning disabilities be healthy. This work is done with the Partnership Board in Leeds and with other health services in Leeds. The Health Task Group helps make sure this work is done. This is our plan for 2011 to The plan says our targets. These are the things we want to get right in 2011 and 2012.

Health checks We will make sure there are more health checks. People getting checked out helps find out what they need to be healthy. We will keep finding out if more people are having health checks. We want to include everyone. Some groups of people tend to have less checks than others. We will work hard to help these groups have more checks. These groups include people who are black or from minority ethnic groups. We will find out what support these groups need to help them have more checks.

In January 2011 we will know what to do to help more people have health checks. We will tell doctors about how to help more people to have health checks. We might also ask doctors for their ideas about how to help more people. We will do training for staff about helping more people have health checks. This will also help make sure people have good information about how to be healthy. More about health checks training

Safe care We will work to help people be safe when the use health services. Health services means services the NHS gives and services that work for the NHS. We will help people be safe by making sure there is good information. This information will be for people with learning disabilities and for their carers. There will be good information about how to complain. This will make it easier for people to complain when the services they get need to do better.

We will do work to give people good information about safeguarding. Safeguarding means the rules health services follow to help keep people safe. One idea for giving people good information is to make a DVD. If we make a DVD as well as other information that is easy to understand this will help more people get the information about safe care. More about safe care

Better services Valuing People was a government report about helping people with learning disabilities. The report said ways to make health services better for people with learning disabilities. We will make a questionnaire to ask people how health services can help them better. The questionnaire will ask how health services can be more person-centred. Being person-centred means giving people the help they need. Different people need help in different ways. Giving people the right kind of help means they are more included in using health services.

The questionnaire will be done by March We will use what people tell us in the questionnaire to help plan how to make health services better. More about better services
