Care Certificate Standards

Introduction The Care Certificate Standards are a set of 15 standards that the health and social care work force are required to follow As you work through the units for Level 1 Introduction to Health and Social Care you will be introduced to some of the competencies and skills required to meet the Care Certificate Standards

Standard 1 – Understand Your Role There are many roles to choose from within the Health and Social Care Sector; and as you work through the units for Level 1 Introduction to Health and Social Care, you will become more aware of what these are and the tasks that may be expected of you within the different roles.

Standard 2 – Your Personal Development Level 1 Introduction to Health and Social Care can be seen as the beginning of your personal development in care and the reviews you complete will show what you want to achieve. This will be discussed with your group and tutor at the beginning of the course.

Standard 3 and 4 Standard 3 – Duty of Care This will be discussed as part of the Awareness and Protection unit 104. Standard 4 – Equality and Diversity This will be fully covered as you work towards HSC L1 in unit 123

Standard 5 and 6 Standard 5 – Work in a Person Centred Way You will learn about person centred support and Practice as you work through units 102, 123 and 125. Standard 6 – Communication Effective communication is one of the most important aspects of being a carer, and you will look at this in more detail in units 106, 117 and 121

Standard 7 and 8 Standard 7 – Privacy and Dignity These are just 2 of the values and principles you will be looking at in unit 102. Standard 8 – Fluids and Nutrition This is an important part of person centred care, as good nutrition and adequate fluid intake promote an individuals well being; this will be covered towards the end of your learning programme, along with food safety.

Standard 9 - Mental Health, Dementia and Learning Disabilities This course covers 2 units, 117 and 121 which are dedicated to learning disabilities, dementia and mental health, they will be covered towards the end of your learning programme.

Standard 10 and 11 Standard 10 – Safeguarding Adults Standard 11 – Safeguarding Children You will be able to work on these subjects in unit 104 which is dedicated to awareness of protection and safeguarding.

Standard 12 – Basic Life Support This is the only standard from the Care Certificate that you will not be introduced to during this course.

Standard 13 and 14 Standard 13 – Health and Safety Unit 124 is a unit dedicated to being aware of your own health and safety within a care environment. Standard 14 – Handling Information Will be discussed along side of Confidentiality

Standard 15 - Infection Prevention and Control You will find out about this while working through the Health and Safety unit 124. On successful completion of this course you will have achieved a Level 1 certificate in Health and Social Care. You will also have knowledge that you will be able to transfer into your induction and the Care Certificate, and into your job role in the care sector.
