Garth Webb Secondary School Principal’s Report December 7, 2015

Overview of Report “Bell Times” Co-curricular Calendar and Events Staffing Update Labour Update Exams Q & A

“Bell” Times for 2016-17 Growth in Student Population over first four years from 394 to 1093 Next year, grade 9 class projected at 392 Total student population will be 1200 to 1225 range May not be able to schedule common lunch

“Bell” Times Continued Currently we have a 60 minute common lunch Many advantages: shorter day, extra help sessions, clubs/activities available to all, intermural sports as gym is available, teams can practice The number of classes available, especially for special purpose classrooms is more limited with a common lunch We may need to move to a five period instructional day which would mean adding 20 minutes to the day (eg start at 8:10) We’ll seek feedback from students, staff and parents Final decision won’t be made until we have our numbers confirmed ---we’re able to delay longer than most schools because of no buses See board procedures for details on process
