Remember The Titans: A Movie Review Mike Eshleman

Plot: Suburban Virginia schools have been segregated for generations. One Black and one White high school are closed and the students sent to T.C. Williams High School under federal mandate to integrate. The year is seen through the eyes of the football team where the man hired to coach the Black school is made head coach over the highly successful white coach. Based on the actual events of 1971, the team becomes the unifying symbol for the community as the boys and the adults learn to depend on and trust each other. (IMDB)

What Makes RTT Great? Characters Many things make this movie great, but the historical relevancy of this film is amazing, and director Boaz Yakin and producer Jerry Bruckheimer did an excellent job casting the characters, including Denzel Washington as Coach Herman Boone leading the way. If you’ve seen this film, you know it’s hard to forget certain characters such as Gerry Bertier, his rival turned friend Julius Campbell, Big Louie and of course Ronnie “Sunshine” Bass.

What Makes RTT Great? Plot The plot in itself makes this movie incredible. Coach Boone is tasked with trying to get a group of white and black football players to co-exist during a time in America where that task seemed nearly impossible. Boone has to deal with many different struggles in this film but tries his hardest to overcome them all, and manages to keep a smile on his face and stay upbeat

What Makes RTT Great? It’s a True Story Although some of the events in the movie weren’t how it all panned out in real life, the whole movie is based off of the true story of the Titans from T.C. Williams High School and their struggle to co-exist as a team.

Memorable Scenes There are many unforgettable scenes in “Remember The Titans”, perhaps none more memorable than the “left side, strong side” scene midway through the movie (The iconic scene)
