Presentation transcript:

Feedback Fiesta Presenters: Kelley Brumbelow Victoria Barbour

Some of the main purposes of student feedback are: Enhancing the students' experience of learning and teaching Contributing to monitoring and review of quality and standards Ensuring the effectiveness of course design and delivery Enabling a dialogue with students Helping students reflect upon their experiences As part of the teaching and learning process Identifying good practice

Factors to Consider

Feedback Best Practices Compliment Sandwich: Start with something that was done well then switch to the problem area and finish with a positive.

Feedback Best Practices Pre-load Images Dropbox Audio/Vid eo Feature Dropbox Audio/Vid eo Feature

Late Work Stamps

Feedback Best Practices Use the dropbox feedback as an opportunity to provide students with additional resources and help. Continue to work on formatting your essays correctly according to MLA. Check out this link to see a properly formatted works cited page: 47/12/

Using Images & Text IMAGES I love using images in my feedback. I often create new images for specific assignments. * Peer editing image with helpful tips * Game project with fun image * Virtual museum project with fun image WRITTEN FEEDBACK * Details about incorrect answers and tips for future work * Comments on an essay Kelly Gardner’s Examples

Attaching Resources Add a File to the Dropbox, Discussion or quiz feedback Incentivize students to read feedback Use for: study materials self-correction remediation Carrie Madden

Providing Extension/Differentiation in Quiz Feedback Use html to embed related videos to extend learning or preview upcoming material Carrie Madden

Providing Follow-Up Feedback in Dropboxes: Pushing Students to Go the Distance -In my dropboxes, I often reward students with partial credit and then “push” them to finish the project or task for full points. -Positive Motivational Stickers also help encourage students -Alan Hendrick

Quicklink back to Content and Formative Assessments When students struggle on a quiz/test, I encourage them to review the content lesson and feedback left on formative assessments associated with the lesson. You can easily insert direct links to content and dropboxes by clicking the quick link button. - Joyce Bearden

Feedback Best Practices Always include late work deductions in the feedback area.

Feedback Best Practices Also, don’t forget to include feedback in the gradebook when you give students a zero. Example: Assignment was not completed by the due date, 11/08/13. If assignment is completed by 11/15/13 at midnight, grade earned will be adjusted according to the GaVS tardy/late policy penalties. If there is an error, please get in touch with me!

Using Turnitin.com to Provide Feedback Turnitin.com is a program that helps identify papers that have been plagiarized. It not only tells teachers if the papers have been plagiarized, but it gives us the exact sources that were used on the internet. Turnitin.com is embedded within our courses, so you don’t have to do anything regarding submission.

Originality Report The originality report sorts through many databases of information, including scholarly writings (journals, research, etc), and work that has been previously submitted to educational institutions. The originality report detects matches to items in these databases and gives a percentage match to the items found. This report can be used in the following ways: - to determine where information should be cited - to determine where original words were not used

GradeMark

Go into the dropbox, and click Edit next to the assignment. Then scroll to the bottom of the page, and allow students to see Originality Reports.
