Fitness Anaerobic Activity

Benefits of Anaerobic Activity The benefits of weight training for adolescents are numerous, and recent research shows that a consistent strength training regimen can lead to life-long fitness. Strength training helps develop strong bones, control weight, reduce risk of injury, boost stamina, manage chronic conditions, and sharpen focus. Within the physical education department there are numerous variations taught to students on how to properly strength train. According to Edward Laskowski, M.D., a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist at Mayo Clinic “If you don’t do anything to replace the lean muscle you lose, you’ll increase the percentage of fat in your body” (Mayo Clinic, 2013, p. 1).

Types of Anaerobic Activity Anaerobic exercise is short-lasting, high-intensity activity, where your body's demand for oxygen exceeds the oxygen supply available. Anaerobic exercise relies on energy sources that are stored in the muscles and, unlike aerobic exercise, is not dependent on oxygen from (breathing) the air. Weight Training Sprinting Plyometrics Swim Sprints Jumping Rope Calistenics

Calisthenics Calisthenics is a form of anaerobic activity using your own bodyweight to increase muscle mass.

Weight Training Weight training is a type of anaerobic exercise that involves lifting weights using a variety of tools such as free weights, machines, as well as body weight.

Sprinting Sprinting is a type of anaerobic exercise that involves a quick burst of speed running over a short distance and time.

Plyometrics Plyometrics, also known as "jump training" or "plyos", are exercises in which muscles exert maximum force in short intervals of time, with the goal of increasing power (speed- strength).

Swim Sprints Swim sprints is a form of swimming performed over short distances quickly for a short period of time.

Jumping Rope Jumping rope is a form of an anaerobic exercise that is performed for a short period of time quickly at a high intensity.
