How is sugar used It can be used to: Preserve food In medicine In trade Ethanol
Environmental Consequence Extracting sap from trees is harmful. Destructions of habitats for plantations Disposing of the pesticide infested water affects water and soil. Pesticides add to air pollution. All of the land around a plantation gets affected by all of the chemicals and pesticides used.
Cultural Consequences Sugar… Only grows in tropical regions, causing us to tear down rainforests for plantations. Plantations are still being continued. The infested water that is disposed affects the near by water. Sugar fields in the Everglades agricultural area are blocking the natural flow of the Everglades.
Industry (and Government) say it’s doing They think the sugar is not a problem.
