Lines can be used to point or they can be the outline of a solid object. It is longer than it is wide. Types of line refers to straight, curvy, horizontal, vertical, diagonal, zigzag, and angular. Direction Direction is the movement that a line may have or seem to indicate. Location Location is the placement of a line.
Shape is a two-dimensional 2D area made by connecting lines to make an object. Shapes may be positive or negative, biomorphic (natural) or geometric.
The three dimensional 3D image of a shape, it has volume, dimension, appears to have mass. 3D form can be real= sculpture Or it can be drawn using lines to create depth, as you can see with the examples on this page.
The appearance of lights and darks found in a work of art. They create the look of light shining in an artwork or tone can also help to create form (3D).
There are many different types of color: Warm, cool, primary, secondary, intermediate, analogous (contrasting), and complementary. Mixing colors and choosing the right colors for an artwork is not always easy. Colors create feelings/ mood in an artwork: The right colors can make a person feel happy, sad, angry, etc. Color is very important to an artist!
The roughness or smoothness of a surface. Texture can be real, tactile (sandpaper), or illusion (looks soft, but not). How do you think an artist can create the look of texture in an artwork?
Space can be shallow, or deep. Two-dimensional space has height and width. Three-dimensional space has height, width, volume. Deep--foreground, middle ground, background. Shallow--foreground and background. Can you think of an example of a shallow picture and a deep picture?
