Veterans' Day 2011 Remembering the Service and the Sacrifice
Acheim was traveling through the desert… “In the morning you will be both happy and sad.”
As we celebrate Veterans’ Day we too should be both happy and sad… Happy for the service Sad for the sacrifice
This morning we remember the service and the sacrifice.
“I praise the Lord, who is my strength. He teaches my hands to war, and my fingers to fight: He is my goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, my deliverer, and my shield. I trust in him; for he subdues the people under me.” Psalm 144:1,2
Remember the Service We live in a sad and fallen world We live in a sad and fallen world Good men and women must stand to the wall and say, “You shall not pass!” Good men and women must stand to the wall and say, “You shall not pass!” God calls good men and women to this service God calls good men and women to this service God blesses those who serve Him in this way God blesses those who serve Him in this way
We live in a sad and fallen world
Good men and women must stand to the wall and say, “You shall not pass!” “Freedom is not free.” In the fallen world strength is needed to protect the weak
God calls good men and women to this service “I praise the Lord, who is my strength. He teaches my hands to war, and my fingers to fight.” Those who serve in the armed forces serve God
God blesses those who serve Him in this way “He is my goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, my deliverer, and my shield.” We entrust those who serve to His keeping and protection
Remember the Sacrifice All who serve in armed forces make sacrifices All who serve in armed forces make sacrifices The families of those who are serving make great sacrifices The families of those who are serving make great sacrifices We can never forget those who have given their lives in sacrifice for us We can never forget those who have given their lives in sacrifice for us The Son of God sacrificed His life to bring them to Himself in heaven. The Son of God sacrificed His life to bring them to Himself in heaven.
All who serve in armed forces make sacrifices
The families of those who are serving make great sacrifices
We can never forget those who have given their lives in sacrifice for us “The world may little note nor long remember what we say here…But we can never forget what they did here.”
The Son of God sacrificed His life to bring them to Himself in heaven. “For me to live is Christ and to die is gain.” Jesus died for us all so that we may have eternal life
What happened with Acheim? When Acheim emptied out his pockets he found that all the stones had turned into fine jewels. He was happy for his wealth… But then he was sad, because he had not picked up more stones.
This day we are happy and sad Happy for the service Sad for the sacrifice
And we remember and thank God for those who have served and have sacrificed
