Pirates What drives people to do crime?

The Spanish did it! After Colonizing the Americas the Spanish began the triangle trade creating an opportunity for gaining in wealth Outcasts who had come to the Caribbean looking for a new start sold jerky to passing ships, the meat came from hogs and cattle left by the Spanish with no natural predator, called Boucans, Spanish came and killed off the herds of meat leaving the outcasts with no income Also they were shipping huge amounts of precious metals to Europe on Treasure ships With their new wealth Spain tried to intimidate other European countries, especially England Thieves and those loyal to Spain’s enemies could not resist and began pirating or privateering with a license

Too Big of aTemptation! With ships loaded to the max with gold and silver the temptation was too great French and English ships began to attack the Spanish looking for treasure The way the Caribbean islands bottle necked the ships created great opportunity and great temptation

For Survival and Revenge! When the Spanish went to war over total control of American colonies they were joined by the French, The British and Dutch joined together to fight what we call the French and Indian or 7 years war British Privateers raided French and Spanish ships all over the Caribbean and establish the English and Dutch in the Caribbean When the war ended with the Treaty of Paris, Privateers were out of work and turned to piracy to survive and punish the Spanish for killing their friends
