PGCE Early Years & Primary Pre-Placement Meeting November / December 2015

Placement within Programme o Placement handbook and Overview provide guidance for the placement with the key activities and teaching percentage requirements. o University expectations – in terms of trainee monitoring and assessment, review grades and details of key dates. o Procedures for weekly review meetings, lesson observation format (no grades), lesson evaluations and cause for concern procedures.

Trainee Conduct and Absence o Behaviour o Appearance o Conform to school discipline system o Trainee to inform school & University of absence (Partnership Office). Repeated each day of absence. o Maintain record of attendance See handbook.

Weekly Meeting & Review o Questions - how do they know? What evidence? What is the impact on pupils re children’s learning and progress? o Weekly Evaluation and Review Form – handbook and web page. o Trainee to complete relevant sections of form (first page of document); to consider personal progress, own subject knowledge, impact of training, pupil progress using Teachers’ Standards and including evidence of achievement using annotations/post it notes etc on relevant pages of TDP. o Trainee to complete first page before meeting. Consider progress, own subject knowledge, impact of training o Weekly review form - focus for discussion and targets. o Weekly meeting and review form – form sent to tutor.

Weekly Evaluation & Review Meeting to include… o progress of trainee in meeting their previous week’s targets and their annotation of the TDP; o trainee’s evaluations from own perspective, key successes and personal progress including lesson observations; o overall progress made by the children; o an agreed overall grade for professional practice during that week; o future targets and the actions required to meet these.

Standards o ACE into spring placement. o Trainees annotate progress against all the Teachers’ Standards each week prior to the Weekly Evaluation & Review meeting. o Mentors refer to the graded criteria booklets. o Focus is on all 8 standards in professional discussions and meetings.

Monitoring and Assessment o Trainee to set up a Monitoring & Assesment file with designated weekly sections. o Discuss with the trainee how the responsibility for assessment will build up over the placement, using (where appropriate) the school’s assessment systems. o Any concerns contact your placement tutor.

Placement Tutor Involvement o Two joint observations close to Review Point A, and at the end of the placement. o The initial visit informs grades for review point A and the final joint observation informs final grades and completion of TDP. o Attendance at partnership meetings in February is an opportunity to liaise with the placement tutor and/or School experience Co-ordinator to discuss progress, concerns and plan ahead. o Trainee responsibility for communication. o Communication is key!

Issues o Raise with your placement tutor as soon as possible o Placement tutor informs School Experience Coordinator (Caroline / Charlotte) o Actions decided & placement tutor liaises with the school. o Outcome monitored by placement tutor and School Experience Coordinator. o Handbooks contain further information.
