Rene was born on March 31, 1596 in La Haye, France Rene’s mother died when he was only 1 so he and his and sister, Pierre and Jeanne were raised by their grandmother. Rene died on February 11,1650.

 Rene was the first modern philosopher.  Rene was a volunteer in the Dutch Army for 11 years.  Rene was called the “Father of Modern Philosophy”

 Rene’s mother died when he was 1.  Rene’s father was a lawyer and a magistrate.  In 1616, he began the study of law at University of Poitiers  In 1649, Queen Christina of Sweden persuaded Descartes to come to Stockholm. On February 11, 1650, after only a few months in that cold climate, he died of pneumonia
