Examples of Software Used to Create

://i.walmartimages.com/i/p/00/01/03/43/87 / _500X500.jpg&imgrefurl=ht tp:// Simple drawings and diagrams SOFTWARE/TECHNOLOGY used: Browse the worldwide web (remember to follow copyright rules & laws when borrowing others’ work). Draw your own diagram and scan in, using a flatbed scanner with USB cable (save in a format such as jpeg or eps; crop if necessary in Word, PowerPoint, Photoshop, etc.). Look-Like-It-Is-Moving

Graphs and charts Microsoft Excel (likely the best place to create graphs and charts, beginning with the input of information in a simple table; charts can be created and inserted in PowerPoint and Word as well; look for chart wizards for help) SOFTWARE/TECHNOLOGY used:

Illustrated text SOFTWARE/TECHNOLOGY used: Word, PowerPoint and Excel have Word Art and Smart Art, which can create interesting text, as well as incorporating other shapes both with and without text. Word Art gives numerous choices for text color, shape, and direction, while Smart Art contains template graphics designed to show relationships and organization of thoughts. Actually, most software programs today have some level of manipulation of text, from simple to complex (Photoshop, Illustrator, CorelDRAW, InDesign).

Maps Look-Like-It-Is-Moving SOFTWARE/TECHNOLOGY used: Browse the worldwide web (remember to follow copyright rules and laws when borrowing others’ work). Draw your own map and take a digital photo of it… or scan it in, using a flatbed scanner with USB cable (save in a format such as jpeg or eps; crop if necessary in Word, PowerPoint, Photoshop, etc.).

Photos SOFTWARE/TECHNOLOGY used: Browse the worldwide web (remember to follow copyright rules and laws when borrowing others’ work). Take a digital photo and download it to your computer; scan in a hard copy photo using a flatbed scanner with USB cable (save in a format such as jpeg; crop if necessary in Word, PowerPoint, Photoshop, etc.). Edit/crop using Word or PowerPoint’s features, or a photo-manipulation program such as Photoshop.

Screen shots SOFTWARE/TECHNOLOGY used: On the PC… look for the “Print Screen” or “PRTSC” button, which is in the upper right corner of the keyboard, press it, then paste the bitmap image into your software program; crop afterwards if necessary. On the Mac… no button is present. Instead, press Command + Shift + 3 (screen shot of the full screen), Command + Shift + 4 (specifies an area of the screen), or Command + Shift + 4, then spacebar, then click a window (takes a screen shot of a window only).

Video clips SOFTWARE/TECHNOLOGY used: Browse the worldwide web, particularly You Tube; type in brief description of subject matter of video; there are thousands of videos on You Tube, some great, some not-so-great. Use your video recorder to record footage, then dump raw video into a video editing program. Suggestions for free downloadable video editing programs can be found on the following website: Microsoft Movie Maker is already installed on newer PC computers running Windows XP and has been labeled one of the best free video editing software programs currently available by the above website.

And more! SOFTWARE/TECHNOLOGY used: PDF files, which enable anyone to open, read, and print them. Most software programs have the option of saving a file in a pdf format, with additional saving and viewing options within the pdf format. Acrobat Reader is required to open a pdf file Save as type: P ortable D ocument F ormat

And still more! Symbols & special characters SOFTWARE/TECHNOLOGY used: Symbols and special characters may be accessed on a PC through the following hierarchy: Windows circular button (lower left corner), All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Character Map. The character must then be selected from the map, copied, and pasted into software program. Important characters include copyright ©, paragraph ¶, registered®, degree °, cent ¢, and plus/minus ± signs. Zaph Dingbats, Wingdings, and Webdings are common fonts that have additional special characters, as is shown at left.
