All the electrical energy is transformed to light energy. C. Some of the electrical energy is transformed to light energy and some is destroyed. D. All the electrical energy is transformed to heat energy.

Energy Mrs. Smith

Has several forms (or types) Law of Conservation of Energy The ability to do work or cause change. Exists in 2 States Has several forms (or types) Kinetic - Energy of Motion Potential - Stored Energy Chemical Electrical Light Nuclear Heat Sound Can be Converted but not destroyed Can be Transformed or changed, but not created or destroyed. Law of Conservation of Energy

Law of Conservation of energy What is the law of conservation of energy? Energy can not be created or destroyed. It can only be transferred or transformed.

Energy Transformations

What does it mean to “transform” something?

What type of energy is this? What is happening to the energy? Is it being created, Destroyed or transformed Chemical (battery) Electrical (wire) Light (light bulb)

As energy moves through a system it can be transferred and/or transformed. Energy transformations involve the energy changing into a new form Example: the chemical in the battery is transformed into the electrical in the wire.

What happened to my energy? Did my energy just disappear? Energy can be changed from one form to another. When energy changes form, the same amount of energy exists after the change as there was before the change

For example, the chemical energy in a flashlight is transformed into electrical energy and then light energy

Starting energy is transformed to final energy

Energy transformations For example: When you ate breakfast this morning what type of Energy were you consuming? What type of Energy did you then use in order to leave your house (or the Cafeteria)? So, the energy transformation was: Chemical  Kinetic Chemical Starting Energy Kinetic Final Energy

One more example: What type of Energy transformation is taking place? This summer, my friends drove by several windmills on a trip out west (each windmill is about as tall as a 30 story building). They are used as an alternative energy source. What type of Energy transformation is taking place? Kinetic (Wind)  Electrical
