Day 4: Law of Conservation

Law of Conservation of Energy Notes Blank sheet of paper Proper heading Title: Law of Conservation of Energy

Stop and Jot When you bounce a ball, why doesn’t it bounce as high the second time, or the third, or the fourth?

Conservation Energy is the ability to create a change in matter.

Conservation Energy is conserved when a change occurs. Like mass, energy cannot be created or destroyed.

Conservation of Energy Energy can only be transformed into other forms of energy. Often, a lot of energy is lost to heat.

Example Example 1: Gas in a Car – Chemical energy  mechanical energy.

Example 2 Example 2: Radio – Electrical energy  sound

Whiteboard Practice For each picture, determine the energy transformation taking place. Remember the whiteboard rules: – No drawing – No whining – Wait until Miss M counts down to hold up your board.
