South Dakota

History EEEEarly settlers lived in Soddy's in South Dakota. WWWWhen President Benjamin Harrison signed the bills that made North and South Dakota States he shuffled them up so no one knows which state was signed first. 111 s Ancient day Native peoples arrive in the South Dakota area. 1111861 the U.S. Congress establishes South Dakota Territory. 1111889 South Dakota became the fortieth state.

Economy  Some main products in South Dakota are; corn, soybeans, and oats. FFinance is big business in South Dakota. IIn 2005 the farm economy produced cash receipts of $5.7 billion. TThe state’s unemployment rate has been significantly lower than the unemployment rate of the United States and is expected to remain lower in the future.  Grains and livestock have been the main farm products in South Dakota.

Famous People  Laura Ingalls Wilder, a famous writer, lived in South Dakota.  Wild Bill Hickok was a gun fighter and also a lawman. He was killed while playing poker in Deadwood, South Dakota.  Calamity Jane claimed to have been married to Wild Bill. She is baried in the same cemetery as him in Deadwood, South Dakota.  Bob Barker grew up in South Dakota. TTatnka – Iyotank – Sitting Bull was born Around 1831 on the Grand River in present – day South Dakota.

Attractions  Beautiful Rushmore Cave is the area’s largest stalactite cave and the closest cave to Mt. Rushmore National Memorial. CCorn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota is the largest corn palace in the world.  Mt. Rushmore is the largest monument carving in the U.S. FFalls Park’s water fall’s name is Sioux Falls it’s a gorgeous site to see.  Crazy Horse Memorial is a big monument in Black Hills mountain. Its one arm is as big as a football field.
