E-Play Claudia V. Goldman A family customized entertainer and pacifier

Project Goals Pacifier for babies (e.g., bedtime). Pacifier for children, by letting them connect to their parents by video- phone. Electronic games and educational activities operated by touch. Autonomous E-care –E-Play contacts a parent when it “hears” the child crying.

Description - Baby E-Play Baby E-Play can be placed inside the baby bed. The baby can operate it by simple touch. Baby E-Play plays a song for bedtime, or tells a story.

Description - Child E-Play Child E-Play may be placed on a stand, or on a flat surface. The child chooses one of many activities by touching the corresponding shape. Activities include: –story telling –song playing –interactive game –connecting the parents by video phone

Technology Found Panel PC with flat and touch screen, modem, and ethernet connection. Digital frames (e.g., Sony). IP phones services. Kiosks technology and software. Digital video cameras and editing/playing software.

Technology in the Future E-Play on batteries and wireless communication - NO CABLES! –No open drives IP Phone connection or phone handset attached to E-Play. Ability of recognizing a child crying. Appropriate software attached that enables the parents to customize E-Play for their own family.

Current Status Touch and Play - Try it by yourself! Expertise is needed to prepare the files that are played. E-Play is not adapted for different reaction times. Automatic on/off is not available. The touchscreen is not a standalone living software.

Field Work TomK E-Play –ability to point –reaction times (though it did not distract him) YaelK E-Play –Her behavior was more focused. No training period - E-Play was played naturally by both.

Long Term Advantages Large libraries of movies/stories can be stored in the HD. No need to play Video/DVD one after the other. Easy way of communication between children and parents absent from home. Learning to match (shapes, sounds, pictures and activities).
