The Chisholm Trail By: Daniela, Claudia, Mollie, Will

The Chisholm Trail was a cattle trail leading from North Texas across Oklahoma to Abilene, Kansas. This trail originated in San Antonio Texas. In the Civil War it help get the economy better it brought high prices and encourage Texas ranchers to drive large amount of miles to the market

After a time it made the most popular trail in Texas that drove to the north of the United States. After 1871, the Chisholm Trail decreased in significance as Abilene lost its preeminence as a shipping point for Texas cattle. Then another trail became more popular it took down the Chisholm Trail.

When the Civil War ended the state's only potential assets were its countless longhorns, for which no market was available Missouri and Kansas had closed their borders to Texas cattle in the 1850s because of the deadly Texas fever they carried. In the East was a growing demand for beef.
