INTRODUCTION

BENEFITS – WHY HAVE A TEAM Added level of Safety Get Students Involved Create Community Environment

Events based team, compared to some schools that have 24/7 response teams We are responsible for any high risk BUSU sanctioned events Mostly Isaac’s night, which is our on campus bar We also do events like o-week, homecoming, concerts, etc. We may be smaller than some schools but we definitely make a difference HOW DO WE COMPARE?

Health and Safety Coordinator -Responsible for the Brock First Aid Responders -Close relationship with Bar Manager, Campus Security and Events programmer Team – Volunteers volunteers each year -Team leaders: Returning volunteers -Fairly tight nit team -Work late nights, and have to be able to count on each other -Volunteers come from varying backgrounds -Nursing- Concurrent Education -Medical sciences- Recreation and Leisure Studies MEET OUR TEAM

 Vendor Fair is a two day event held during O-week  Many different community sponsors attend to promote their company  We advertise services, clubs and volunteer opportunities  BUSU Tent within the fair  Best way to reach multiple students  Main place to recruit volunteers  Set up a table  What do you have at your school? VENDOR FAIR - RECRUITING

 Many ways to do your applications  On-line application  Hard copy  – Important  What to include:  Student number and  When their first aid expires  Contact information/allergies APPLICATIONS

 Things to consider: How to collect the information?  #1 Previous Job Experience  Quality of resume and application- did they put in the effort?  Do they seem committed  What kind of training do they have? CHOOSING THE TEAM

SCHEDULING Have clear guidelines, Send the schedule out early, be prepared for changes

O-WEEK, FROST WEEK, HOMECOMING O-week: -A lot of preparation happens before hand, be involved! -A very very long week, with very long hours and days (TOTALLY WORTH IT) -You’ll need a lot of volunteers – figure out how you’re going to do that! Homecoming and Frost week: -Will seem like a breeze, but be prepared! -Always have too many volunteers, instead of not enough
