STATISTICS 1040 TERM PROJECT SPRING 2012

THE QUESTION Is a student’s Grade Point Average (GPA) correlated with their age?

THE PLAN: Each member of the group went to different parts of the SLCC Campus at different times to gather 20 random samples of student’s age’s and their GPA. Sample Size: 80

OUR DATA COMPILED DATA FOR TESTING CORRELATION BETWEEN AGE AND GPA AGEGPAAGEGPAAGEGPA

AGE Mean= Standard Deviation=6.22 Minimum=18 Quartile 1=20 Median=22 Quartile 3=27.5 Maximum=47 Range= 29 Mode=19 Outliers= 42, 43, 47 Statistics for our first quantitative variable

CONCLUSION There were many lurking variables such as dedication to school work, past school experience and education as well as outside factors such as family, work and other responsibilities. We predict that if we may have had a larger sample size, we may have seen some signs of correlation occurring.
