Honors English 3 January 14, 2015 I can identify archetypes in a text. I can analyze a writer’s tone in development of his purpose. I can analyze characters and their development. I can edit sentences for mistakes in mechanics and pronoun problems.

Sort the following pronouns into three groups. Be prepared to justify your groupings. If a word is listed more than once, it can fit into more than one group. HimWeSheIt their ItsyouI theyOurHerme themMineHeMy YouHisyourus hers

Three Pronoun Cases Nominative I You He, she, it We You they Objective Me You Him, her, it Us You them Possessive My, mine Your, yours His, her, hers, its Our, ours Your, yours Their, theirs Nominative Pronouns are used as subjects. Example: We ordered the concert tickets. He, she, and Shelby volunteer at the shelter. Objective Pronouns are used as objects. Example: Can Tea drive the girls and us home from the game? Give the papers to Tony and me.

Edit the following sentences. 1.The judges chose Carmen and I. 2.She said that you and them decided to go camping. 3.Carlos and him were the students that auditioned for the role of Shrek. 4.Marcia bought he and I a hot dog from the Varsity. 5.Between you and I Ms. Botts is cray-cray. When in pronouns are joined together in a sentence with a conjunction, split the sentence into two separate sentences to determine the correct pronoun case.

On the Romanticism Study Guide Complete definitions for Satire archetype Foreshadowing imagery Tone Direct characterization Indirect characterization stereotype We will look for examples of these words as we read the story.

Journal Often in literature, characters compromise themselves by making “deals with the devil.” Is doing so something you would be willing to do? Is there anything you want badly enough that you would be willing to compromise some part of yourself to attain that desire? Explain.

Read “The Devil and Tom Walker” Discuss the author’s satire and purpose for the satire. Discuss tone apart from satire (because a writer’s tone can be satirical). Direct and indirect characterization What archetypes do you see in the story?
