DEMI DABOR-ALLOH TGF-β Receptor II and Gastric Cancer

TGF-β Receptor II is a trans-membrane serine/threonine kinase

TGF β signalling regulates many cell processes including:  Growth Inhibition  Cell Migration  Invasion  Epithelial – Mesenchymal Transition  Extracellular Matrix Remodelling  Immune - suppression

Knocking out TGF-β receptor II caused embryonic lethality and defects of yolk sac haematopoiesis and vasculogenesis

Gastric cancer is the second most frequent cause of cancer death in the world after lung cancer.

Some patients with gastric cancer have mutations that truncate the TGF-β RII protein

The TGF-β Paradox: it has Cytostatic effects vs. tumour favouring effects

Surgery is the primary treatment for gastric cancer Total Gastrectomy Endoscopic Mucosal Resection
