新一代開放式電子資源管理系統 A new generation of ERMs : Verde 資深技術顧問 王鐠淋

An E-Resources Management System: The Vision “ A system that supports management of the information and workflows necessary to efficiently select, evaluate, acquire, maintain, renew/cancel and provide informed access to e-resources in accordance with their business and license terms” - Ivy Anderson, Robin Wendler (Harvard University Library) and Ellen Duranceau (MIT Libraries) 2

Have other depart of libraries purchased or considered purchasing this e- resource? Can we share expense? Where is this e-resource request in the acquisitions process? Are there any e-resource test periods I should know about? What are the license restrictions of this e- resource? (Where is the license?) When and how must we renew this license? Common questions librarians will asking when they talking about e-resources 3

What tasks that ERM system will be involved (1) 4

Verde A new Open ERMs from Ex Libris

What do we mean by Electronic Resources? e-Journals e-Books Reference databases Full-text databases Packages of e-journals Interfaces to e-journals

Why an e-Resource Management System? e-Resources are becoming a primary focus of library activity: e-Resource usage and investment continues to grow Increasing reliance on Web resources by students and other library patrons “24x7” access requires unmediated support and information at the point of use.

Example: e-resources in the Harvard Libraries Portal, 1998 – 2004 Number of resources: +987% Usage: +1370% Expenditure: +530%

and more… e-Resources are more complex in structure and processing than print resources. e-Resources differ in the way libraries: describe acquire manage enable access and support them.

Verde is a tool designed for library staff to manage their e-resources
