SOME INFORMATION ABOUT IKARIA Ikaria Greece is an unspoiled verdant island lying in the North-Eastern Aegean Islands, near Samos. It was named after the famous myth of Ikaros who drowned in the surrounding sea when he tried to fly as far as the gods and got burned by the sun. Beautiful Ikaria is still very traditional and has numerous beauties to offer to visitors such as waterfalls, streams, sandy and pebble beaches, dense forests and picturesque villages. TOP VILLAGE 1 Armenistis Armenistis Location: 50 km north west of Agios Kirikos Description: This lovely fishing village has become the major tourist centre of Ikaria, but is still very authentic and has managed to keep its relaxed and traditional atmosphere.
TOP VILLAGE 2 Agios Kirikos Agios Kirikos Agios Kirikos Location: On the eastern side of the island Description: Agios Kirikos is the capital of Ikaria and the second largest port, after Evdilos. This is a lovely village full of two and three-storied Neoclassical houses with flowered balconies.
TOP BEACH 1 Nas Nas Location: 55 km north west of Agios Kirikos Description: Nas is the most picturesque beach of Ikaria. This narrow coast is surrounded by rocky cliffs and it gives the best sunset on the island.
TOP BEACH 2 Livadi Livadi Location: 48 km north west of Agios Kirikos Description: Livadi is a long beach with fine sand and exotic water. It is located close to Armenistis and a part of this beach is organized with sunbeds and umbrellas.
SHOPS IN IKARIA The island of Ikaria has only a few shops which are concentrated in the villages of Evdilos, Agios Kirikos, Gialiskari, Therma and Armenistis. Most of those shops are souvenir shops or shops selling the various excellent local products of the island such as golden honey, fine olive oil and cheese products. A few ceramic shops can also be found, proposing superb decorative and functional ceramic and pottery works. The excellent dark wine of Ikaria is sold in almost every shop of the island.
