Lesson 3-3 The Real Number System

Definitions Whole Numbers- All natural numbers and zero. Integers- Set of whole numbers and their opposites {-3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3} Rational Numbers -any number that can be written in the form , where a and b are integers and b  0. Irrational Numbers - any number that cannot be written in the form , where a and b are integers and b  0. Real Numbers - the set of rational and irrational numbers together.

Real Numbers Rational Numbers Irrational Numbers Integers Whole Numbers Natural Numbers

Irrational Numbers-

Name all sets of numbers to which each real number belongs.

Estimate each square root to the nearest tenth Estimate each square root to the nearest tenth. Then graph the square root on a number line.

Replace each ____ with <, >, or = to make a true sentence.
