QEP Status Update on Improvement Opportunities Initiative #1: Student Success Goal 1-1: Enhance students’ critical thinking skills through “teaching for critical thinking” classroom activities across the curriculum.  Administer MAPP (institution-wide direct measure, last administered in 2007)  COMPLETED: Fall 2011, Spring 2012, Lower and Upper division  Hold a 2 nd ARC scoring workshop in spring semester (All College Day ‘11)  COMPLETED: Spring 2012  Consider critical thinking items on the SSI  COMPLETED: Aligned 2 items to Synthesis element; this may change  Documentation of student journaling (V. QEP Status Update on Improvement Opportunities Initiative #2: Professional Development Goal 2-1: Provide professional development opportunities to assist faculty in developing class activities to support teaching for critical thinking.  Advanced CT seminars by discipline, as part of the fall CT Institute.  COMPLETED: Fall 2011  In , QEP office will work with CETL to get in touch with new faculty about CT  ONGOING: Fall 2011, Spring 2012, Summer 2012, Fall 2012 August 31, 2012Quality Enhancement Committee Meeting8

QEP Status Update on Improvement Opportunities Initiative #2: Professional Development Goal 2-2: Develop in-house critical thinking expertise (i.e., faculty champions) using the “train-the-trainer” approach.  C&I 3-yr course review “teaching for critical thinking” checklist.  TABLED: due to forthcoming changes with the course review process, this has yet to be developed INSTITUTION-WIDE and will be addressed in the “what have we learned?” section of the impact report, to incorporate what has been done with online courses only. QEP Status Update on Improvement Opportunities Initiative #3: Critical Thinking Resources Goals 3-1 (electronic resources), 3-2 (RLOs), and 3-4 (CT Resource Centers).  Survey faculty champions to identify implemented RLOs.  IN PROGRESS: Draft survey to be presented to QEC, Deans/Provosts, FGO. Fall  Consider focus groups of students  Proposed as a way to collect feedback on all 3 initiatives. QEC – guidance? Goal 3-3: Contribute to the critical thinking literature…  Survey SPC faculty for feedback re: Champion folios (literature, activities, resources)  IN PROGRESS: Draft survey to be presented to QEC, Deans/Provosts, FGO.
