High performance infrastructure is a necessary but not sufficient condition for high performance network service. The Internet industry balloon has popped –How does Internet2 contribute to the bottom line next quarter? –Capital is short, risk tolerance is minimal The Internet has gone global The Internet community is losing idealism and cohesiveness Security has become an over-riding concern
