In the analysis of a tilting pad thrust bearing, the following dimensions were measured: h1 = 10 mm, h2 = 5mm, L = 10 cm, B = 24 cm The shaft rotates.
How to support a shaft? The motor just turns the shaft. It doesn’t provide any support.

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information This tool is used to distribute the given load on nodes in cylindrical face, which fall in the given "Semi Load Angle" from the loading direction using cosine function. The loading direction can be either based on global coordinate system or local coordinate system. Bearing Pressure

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information Ball and Roller Bearing This tool is used to model roller and ball bearing. Selecting one face from outer race, will create RBE3s circumferentially and center nodes of it are connected to the center RBE2 nodes through spring. Selecting faces from inner and outer race, creates RBE3 circumferentially on inner and outer races for each roller/ball and master nodes of it are connected by a spring. Bearing load can also be imported to apply point force along the radial direction on RBE master nodes.

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information Joints 1. Single revolute joint 2. Double revolute joint 3. Spherical joint 4. Planar, cylindrical glue joint Joints can be modeled by selecting one face each from both master and slave body ("Face Based") or by directly selecting master and slave body ("Body Based"). Joints are represented by creating master and slave RBE2 connected through bar and MPC

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information Single revolute joint Center node of master RBE2 of single revolute joint is connected to the bar and other end of bar is connected to center node of slave RBE2 through MPC with respect to local coordinate system having z axis through the axis of joint

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information Center node of master RBE2 will be connected by 2 bar elements and the master node of slave RBE2 will be connected to the bar through MPC with local coordinate system having z axis through the axis of joint. Double revolute joint

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information Center node of master RBE2 of spherical joint is connected to the bar and other end of bar is connected to center node of slave RBE2 through MPC with respect to global coordinate system. The physical position of the center node of slave RBE2 is to be defined by the user. Selecting slave face is only to identify the slave body, therefore user can select any from slave body. Spherical joint

Copyright © 2010 Altair Engineering, Inc. All rights reserved.Altair Proprietary and Confidential Information 1.This joint can be modeled across matching planar/cylindrical faces. Overlapping nodes between master and slave face will be identified. The overlapping nodes on master faces are projected on slave face to create nodes on slave face. Overlapping node and projected nodes are connected through MPC. For each projected node, surrounding nodes from slave face are identified to create RBE2. Planar and Cylindrical Glue joint
