Personal Effectiveness Skills Induction Unit a

Today’s Session  We will focus on past successes and what skills you used to achieve that success.  We will consider setting goals for future success.  You will write a personal mission statement.

Recognising your Successes  Think about your life so far, and list the ten best things you've achieved.  For each of your achievements write down what helped you become successful.  Now list areas of your life that you want to be successful in now.  Look back at how you have been successful before. How can you use this to ensure success in these areas?

The Future You  Imagine you are going to attend a school reunion in ten years time.  Imagine the ten years have gone really well. Write down on your sheet what has happened to you in that time.

How much do you want to be successful?

Mission Statement  Hopefully by learning a little bit more about your current strengths and those you want to develop further, you will have started to think about what things you’d like to achieve in your life to improve your wellbeing.  Some researchers have suggested that the first step is to write a personal mission statement – a vision or motto for how you’d like your life to be.

Exercise  Knowing where to start with a mission statement can be hard so you’re going to have a worksheet to guide you.  This is Sean Covey’s ‘The Great Discovery’.
