Classroom Environment and Culture and Professional Communication What strategies create a safe, respectful classroom culture that embraces diversity, equity, and accountability and provides a consistent communication gateway with parents and guardians?  CEC2: Accessibility and use of materials  Gives students access to resources on line  Content and schedules are accessible 24/7  CEC 3: Discussion and accountability  Online discussion forums and blogs  Calendars – to help student manage their learning and schedules  CEC4: Use of learning time  Cuts down on transition times when resources are posted  Students manage their time  Helps maximize instructional time  CEC6: Student Status  Discussion posts – allow for all voices to be heard  PCC3: Parents and Guardians  Blog and Calendar features to keep parents/guardians in the loop CEL5D+ Connections

Accessing SWIFT  Frequently Used Links – two links  Student Tools – for students and parents to access your site(s)  Staff Tools – for you to modify your site(s) (new users use their windows login) Note: please make sure you send your URL to your site to your school webmaster so they can link your site to the staff directory. (use the student pathway to get the correct URL)

Creating a New Site On the top navigation bar, click on the Create New Site button:... or... In the Site Menu area, click on the Create New Site button: Either way, you’re then presented with 3 options: If you choose Copy Existing Site – all passwords/doc etc. will come over as well not just the structure. Note : This is not immediate – you will be put in a que based on when you request the site – can take minutes to overnight.

Managing a Site Use Top Navigation Bar to manage sites: ▫ Publish or Unpublish entire site (you can also publish or unpublish individual pages) - this is what it looks like when it is not published ▫ Visit Site shows you what the site will look like to visitors – opens in a new window/tab ▫ Modify Site enables you to change a site’s name ▫ Manage Passwords enables you to password protect a site, specific site pages (Covered in SWIFT 2.0 Advanced Training) ▫ Delete Site does just that (with an “are you sure?” option to back out – 30 days for KSD to retrieve if you change your mind)

Click on Modify Site -  Change your site name in the Title field  Title shows up on school directory  Click Modify when you are done

Key Points  Can password protect sites, pages, documents (cover this in advanced course)  Can publish/unpublish sites at will  Multiple similar pages per site  Max file size 35 MB  Default site size – 50 MB to increase –send request to CSC with name of your site  Can make up to 5 sites – if you need more – you can request from CSC  Can co-author sites together (Team sites, school clubs, principal and admin assistant etc.)  Can I put copyright materials on site?

Let’s Make One!  Select Create Page  Select Static Content from the Page Type drop down menu  Title your Page– (ex: Robotics Club)  Hit Submit  Hints – make a table to control where objects will be on your page… (keep border at “0” to make border not seen)  To make cells in color:  Right click in cell(s)  Choose – Cell – Table Cell Properties  Select the Advanced Tab  Choose the color from the Background Color option  Click Update

Make a Links Page  Create Page – Link Collection  Title the Page  Click Add Link  Must have in address CCSS Links Page

You Try!  Select Create Page  Select Event Calendar from the Page Type drop down menu  Title your page – (Ms. Kirkland’s HW Calendar)  Hit Submit  Create Event  Title – Description- Dates – Category – New Category – give it a category name  Save  Visit Page to see what it looks like live

Blogs  Uses  Homework Blog  Classroom Newsletter – Events updates  Samples  Angela Ramsey – AnnouncementsAnnouncements  EDGE Institute – EDGE BlogEDGE Blog  Froman Homework Blog – What We Did in Class TodayWhat We Did in Class Today  In addition, "power visitors" can subscribe to the RSS feed of your Blog and receive homework assignments as you post them.

How to Add the Blog Page  Select Create Page  Select Blog from the Page Type drop down menu  Title your page – (Class Weekly Homework )  Hit Submit  Choose Create Blog Post  Submit Notice you can allow comments or not! – If you do – always Moderate

Adding the External Link  Select Create Page  Select Menu Link from the Page Type drop down menu  Title your Link– (ex: Skyward Parent Access)  Hit Submit  Type in the URL  Must start with  Change Link Target to New Window  Save  Your menu link is now in the navigation on the left

Moving Pages  Your menu can be managed from almost any screen in SWIFT's site management.  Updating the order of pages is easy -Simply click and drag the icon next to the page you want to move.  If you would rather a page not exist in your site's menu, simply move it to the Other Pages section. These pages can be made accessible by adding links in other pages, but they won't show up in your site's menu  Example – Northwood Volleyball t?id= t?id=27013

Password Protection  Password Protection: You can password protect your entire SWIFT site, individual pages, or even some entries on your pages (such as photo albums and files).  All your passwords are managed from your Password Protected Zones manager.
