Injection Moulding

Injection point The point where the plastic entered the mould.

Ejection points Plastic must be ejected square to the mould

Tapered sides Tapered sides allows the product to be removed from the mould. Taper can be as little as 1:200

Spark Erosion This gives the surface of the plastic a textured finish

Location Points Location points or bosses are used to locate parts together.

Break lines Used as an aesthetic feature, to give strength and rigidity and to disguise any blemishes.

Webs and Ribs These give strength and rigidity to the product.

Material Information Useful for when the product is recycled.

Date symbol Useful for quality assurance and to trace products if there are problems or faults.

Produces large quantities of plastic components quickly and very accurately. The cost of tooling and moulds is very expensive therefore it is important to sell large numbers of the products being manufactured to recover initial set up costs. Solid intricate form / commonly used to mould thermoplastics / split lines / injection points / ejector points / shrinkage / draft angle / surface texture / webs and ribs Injection Moulding
