Procedural Guidelines You Need to Know George Mason University

Professional Opportunity

Tips for Success 1. Dress PROFESSIONALLY! 2. Be on your most responsible, courteous behavior. 3. Arrive early for your scheduled observations. 4. Ask the teacher to sign the documentation form AFTER your observations are complete. 5. Be respectful of your host’s teaching style. 6. Follow along with class activities. 7. NO cell phones/texting, and NO gum. 8. Stay engaged; take notes. 9. Ask questions of your host teacher. 10. Remember to conduct yourself well and make it a meaningful experience.

Tips for Success Prior to the start of your field experience, review all of your social media for professionalism and appropriate content.

Online Registration EVERY STUDENT MUST REGISTER online for field experience!

Registration Deadlines Fall- Register by September 15 Spring- Register by February 15

Placement Information Select one of the following categories on the form: 1. You are full-time contracted teacher and will arrange your own placement in your school district of employment; only full-time contracted teachers are permitted to arrange their own placements and only outside in their own classrooms. If you are a full-time long term substitute or a full-time instructional assistant, please contact the Clinical Practice office at the time of registration. 2. You require the assistance of the Clinical Practice Office to arrange your placement. Do not contact schools directly. Location preferences are not available. 3. You have been assigned a placement by your program. 4. You are arranging your own placement outside the school system – this option only applies to the programs listed in the application and only with the prior permission of the program. All are required to submit an online application. **All placements will occur at an accredited school, including private schools.**

Working Out a Schedule Be flexible when scheduling your observations Do NOT drop by unannounced Be patient

Canceling If for some reason you need to cancel your placement, PLEASE CONTACT THE SCHOOL and the Clinical Practice Specialist.

Documentation Documentation forms are available on the Field Experience Registration website: field-experience field-experience They should be turned in to your instructor if he or she requests them.
