2.3 is asking us to… Choose a goal that is going to bring about health-enhancing change to Whangaparaoa College and / or the community. Explain how this goal is going to positively influence peoples’ Hauora / Well-being Develop a plan of action to achieve this goal. Keep a log of you implementing this goal. Evaluate the goal – did you achieve it? Why and why not? And What would you do differently next time?

Extra Info You can do this assessment: Individually Small or big groups As a class

Possible Goals…. –organising a kapa haka group/festival –organising alternative food for the canteen –establishing a support group for students, eg those giving up smoking, new students arriving at school, support for peer mediators/educators –setting up peer mediation system –developing peer support system –developing specific area of grounds to meet student needs –getting rid of graffiti/litter in the school –developing toilet areas to be safe and hygienic –ensuring that junior school students are fully represented on the school council –creating a safe school environment, eg around school buses, harassment prevention –improving classroom environment to meet student needs –organising a h ā ngi to include healthy options –raising awareness of mental health issues in the school –getting more drinking fountains in the school –making the school more sun-safe –Smoke-free competition –organising a newsletter/health website –helping elderly in the community –supporting local pre-school.

Previous goals at Whangaparaoa College Working at a preschool to educate around healthy eating. Taught the year 7 & 8 classes about Health topics. Created a Health brochure for senior learners about Health-related issues. Ran a tournament week for the junior school.

Today’s Task In groups, choose 2 goals from that list or come up with your own. Rewrite these as SMART goals. Now, answer the following questions: Why is this an issue? How will each dimension of well-being be positively effected? What could you do to achieve this goal?

4 assessment tasks – look through assessment booklets. These booklets MUST be handed in to me at the end of each lesson. You will be given a class period to complete each of the 4 tasks.

Use this time to…. By the end of the lesson you should have: Figured out who you want to work with. What area / goal you may like to do. Have handed in your group brainstorm. Ask any questions that you may have about the assessment. Have had a look at previous assessments.

Where we are at…. Task 1 and 2 should have been completed – most look pretty good. We will spend 10 minutes today filling in at least 1 (if not 2) steps of our log book. Everyone has permission from the school’s / kindergarten’s to go in???? Still waiting on permission from Mr Thomas – because it is the week before exams we may have to start the following week unless it is during Health classes.

Times each group have given me… Hannah + Sarah Whanga Primary Friday 1.30pm GemmaPreschool Wednesday 9am Health P1 next week. EmilyPreschool Friday 9.30am ChelseaPreschool Friday 9am ConnorYr 9 Health Friday P4 Kay

Logbook Every major step that you and your group carry out needs to be kept in your health promotion log and signed off by me. Any evidence you have eg: letters, posters etc, need to be included and stapled to the back of your assessment booklet. (especially if you want to achieve at a Merit or Excellence level). You need at least 5 steps but I would go for about 10. Have a look at the examples. You are to complete 1 or 2 entries now and attach any evidence you may have – see me if you need to photo copy anything.

Plan for rest of the Term: Week 4 – 2.1 (alcohol) revision for exam. Week 5 – Exams Week 6 – 2.3 – implementing goals and log book Week 7 – start 2.5 (Sexuality) Week 8 – 2.5 Week 9 – 2.3 Evaluation of goals. 2.3 complete. Week 10 – 2.5 Week 11 – 2.5
