Pregnancy Is it worth it?

Responsibility Sacrifice Sleepless nights Losing freedom Gaining worries

Implementation Before fertilization the sperm and egg are two separate cells. Each contain half of the information for the development of a new person

Implementation Cont. After Ejaculation it takes sperm 15 min. to 1 hour to reach the fallopian tube. Egg then divides into two cells 30 hours after fertilization the egg divides itself over and over (2 to 4, 4 to 8, etc) Four days later the egg will reach the uterus.

Embryonic development

Embryo Fertilized egg lays to rest on the lining of the uterus. By the 10 th day the embryo contains thousands of cells and is completely buried in the uterine wall. Implementation is now complete

The placenta Disk shaped organ that is attached to the inside wall of the uterus. Connected by the umbilical cord. Provides nutrients and everything needed from the mother.

The placenta continued

The baby’s lifeline Pools of blood are formed in the placenta which bathe the outside of the embryos blood vessels. (the mothers blood does not flow into the baby.) Viruses and drugs can pass from mothers blood to babys blood.

For this reason….. Pregnant women should refrain from using drugs, drinking alcohol and smoking. TAKE CARE OF YOUR HEALTH!

Stages of pregancy Embryo grows rapidly. Heart and brain begin to form. Eyes appear and face takes shape. Small buds on side of body become arms and legs. Internal organs begin to develop (lungs, stomach, and liver.

Fetus From the ninth week until birth the embryo is now called the fetus.

Fetal Growth

Am I Pregnant? Missed menstrual cycle? Not a very reliable indicator of pregnancy Stress illness

Pregnancy Test Detects hormone called HCG Human chorionic gonadotropin After three weeks HCG will be detected by a pregnancy test. Always perform two tests whether result is positive or negative. If positive, see a doctor.
