Summary April 15 th 1912, 2:20 am was a day we would never forget. Many people died, from grown men to almost infants. Even whole families perished in the icy black ocean. Deborah Hopkinson records the true facts about what happened that day. There are even letters and photographs written and taken by the passengers. Although many people died, some survived. In this book, you will hear stories from both sides. Read about this horrible tragedy in the Titanic.

Settings Most of the book takes place on the Titanic. It explains what the ship looked like, and what facilities there were. Such as, exercise rooms, pools, and different levels for boarding. Some point of views are even told from in the ocean. Towards the end the book is told from people once they have reached land.

Rising Action The rising action in the book is when people are finding out the magnificent Titanic is sinking. At first, people thought it was just a small dent, but we know now it was much more serious than that. The water started flowing in the boiling room first, and it slowly worked it’s way up, threatening the lives of many people. Then, people started to panic.

Climax The climax is when the Titanic actually sunk, and people were in life boats. People were really scared and nervous at the time. They were worried for their family and loved ones. Even if they did get lucky to be in a lifeboat, you could have easily frozen to death. Also, many times the ‘father’ of the family was held behind. This was a very exhilarating part of the book.

Falling Action The falling action was when the people had reached land again. They were very relieved, however many people did not make it, or were severely injured. The Titanic sinking was over, but no one will ever forget how many lives it took down with it.

Resolution This is a historical event. It was a tragedy. It impacted hundreds of people, by ruining so many lives. Many people went on the Titanic going to make another home somewhere else, but never found themselves able to make it. Though the Titanic has perished in the material world it will always be in our hearts as well as all of the people who died with it.

Characters Frankie Goldsmith- Third class passenger. He was an adventurous child with a warm heart. Violet Jessop- A loyal stewardess who would do anything for the passengers. During the sinking, she didn’t even consider saving her own life, just others. Colonel Archibald Gracie: One of the last people on the boat from helping others into lifeboats. Eventually, he jumped off the boat into the water. He saved himself by finding the overturned lifeboat. James Clinch Smith- A great friend of Colonel Gracie and he died in the sinking.

Favorite Parts Marissa: My favorite part was when the Titanic was sinking because it was very exciting. Uma: My favorite part was when the survivors reached land. I liked it because it was a happy ending for some.

The End The Titanic will always be in our hearts…
