11.2 Icebergs Objective - Explain how icebergs are formed and why they are dangerous to ships.

Icebergs Glaciers vs. icebergs Glaciers move over land and when they hit water tey become an iceberg. 10,000 icebergs form every year from Greenland.

Icebergs Only about 10 percent of an iceberg is visible. 90% of an iceberg lies below the surface. The underwater part is a hazard to ships because it is often much wider than the visible part of the iceberg.

Icebergs The International Ice Patrol was set-up to track icebergs alter the Titanic disaster. They use ships, planes, and satellites to track icebergs. Warnings by the patrol have saved many people from disasters like the Titanic.
