MINOR IRRIGATION Minor Irrigation Deals with investigation and execution of Minor Irrigation Sources of ayacut up to 5000 Ac. Minor Irrigation is providing irrigation facilities to increase the agriculture production by means of creating new ayacut, stabilizing the existing ayacut of 25.60 lakh acres and also provides drinking water to villages during summer season. Minor Irrigation plays an important role in the development of agriculture and livelihoods particularly in drought prone areas and areas outside command of Major Irrigation sector consist components like, construction of new sources and stabilizing the gap Ayacut schemes viz., NABARD, AIBP, APILIP, RRR TSP and SCSP. In MI Department the benefits will be attained early i.e., by taking up repairs to the sources, the benefits will get in next cropping season.

OBJECTIVES OF MINOR IRRIGATION DEPARTMENT: The ultimate objective of the department is to Restoring the existing M.I sources to original standards where necessary. Construction of new Minor Irrigation Sources. For stabilizing the irrigation potential created Controlling the wastage of water through water conservation plans and better water management plans. Bridging the gap ayacut.

Important activities to be undertaken under the Neeru-Chettu sub-Mission: Inventory of existing water harvesting structures and repairs needed. Construct new water harvesting structures using remote sensing technology. Construction of targeted recharge structures (roof water harvesting, artificial recharge of aquifers and defunct wells). Restoration of major, medium and minor irrigation systems (repair of breach to structures and supply channels, desilting of tanks). Participatory Hydrological Monitoring (surface and groundwater) for community water audit and crop water budgeting. Promote sustainable water use by improved Irrigation and Agricultural practices.

APILIP –Andhra Pradesh Irrigation and Livelihood Improvement Project The Project commenced with effect from 1st April – 2007. Loan Disbursement is upto July – 2016. AP outlay for Minor Irrigation Rs. 2.32 Cr. AP Government agreed extension of the project upto March-2016 and addressed the GoI. OVERVIEW (APCBTMP) Project commenced in July’ 2007 and extended up to July’2016. Approx. Project outlay is Rs. 462.40 crs. for the residual state of Andhra Pradesh. Civil Works for 975 tanks approved for Rs. 343 crs. to stabilize ayacut of 3.01 lakhs acres in 12 Districts. Out of 975 tanks , 822 Tanks work completed and 698 tanks were handed over to WUA for future maintenance. Cumulative expenditure is Rs.364.97 Crs (Up to August 2015). BE for FY 2015-16 is Rs. 84.50 Crs. Expenditure during the year 2015-16 is Rs. 8.13 Crs upto August 2015.

MEMOIRS OF SMALL TANKS Over View About 35,376 No of small tanks having ayacut less than 40 Ha ( <100 Acres) all over Andhra Pradesh are transferred from Panchayat Raj Department to Minor Irrigation Department vide G.O. Ms. No. 216, PR & RD ( PROGS I) Dept Dt.13.6.2005. Government has decided to prepare Memoirs of these small tanks ( <100 Acres) as there is any permanent record on these tanks. It is proposed to take up Memoirs work in two phases i.e. (i) 10 – 40 Ha ayacut in First Phase and (ii) less than 10 Ha ayacut in second phase. The Government vide G.O. Rt. No.1157, I & CAD ( MI.IV) Dept, Dt. 14.7.2009 has given Administrative Approval for Rs.14.84 Crore for preparation of Phase-I Memoirs of 12,977 tanks by way of outsourcing. The Memoirs work was entrusted to 11 Agencies in 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh in Phase – I. The work is nearing completion and information regarding 9,659 tanks were uploaded by APSAC in their website as a part of TIS Project. Government vide G.O. Rt No.287 I&CAD (MIG-I) dept dt.18.03.2013 has given administrative approval for Rs.23.11 crore for preparation of Phase-II memoirs of 22,399 tanks in second phase by way of outsourcing. The work is entrusted to 6 agencies and the same is under progress.

Tank Information System – Status Development of Tank Information System (TIS) for Andhra Pradesh through APSRAC Over View For Development of Tank Information System (TIS) in the State of Andhra Pradesh through Andhra Pradesh State Remote Sensing Applications Centre, Hyderabad administrative approval accorded vide G.O.Ms.No. 139 I & CAD (MI.Genl) Dept.Dated:16-09-2011 under Normal State Plan Funds within the budget provision of M.I. for Rs.598.65 lakhs (Rupees Five hundred ninety eight lakhs and sixty five thousand only). (Rs.347.22 Lakhs for Residual A.P +Rs.251.33 Lakhs for State of Telangana ). The main objective of the study is to develop and compile natural resources information related to catchment and command areas of tanks in Andhra Pradesh on 1:50,000/1:25,000 scale and assessment of run-off in each tank catchment using remote sensing, GIS and GPS techniques. TRIAD (TANK RELIANT IRRIGATED AREA DEVELOPMENT) Objective : It is proposed to study linkage of tanks i.e., Cascade system and to identify new tank sites using Remote Sensing. The Govt. Vide G.O.Ms,No.17, Dt: 31-01-2012 has sanctioned an amount of Rs. 24.93 Crore for preparation of Preliminary Project Report (PPR). Under this programme 5 Districts covered for preparation of preliminary project reports. 1) Vizainagaram 2) Visakhapatnam 3) Chittoor 4) Srikakulam 5) Anantapur TRAID project will cover tank reliant areas of the State. Initially Chittoor district has taken up on pilot basis for preparation of Tank cascade system development. The PPR preparation for five districts was entrusted to M/s APSRAC vide G.O.Ms.No.17, dt:31-01-2012. The Government has issued an administrative approval for Rs.2493.82 lakhs for preparation of PPR for 5 districts. The M/s APSRAC has prepared draft preliminary project report (PPR) for 3 districts viz., Chittoor, Anantapur and Srikakulam and Rs. 4 crore paid to APSRAC as an advance for preparation of PPRs.
