Deism Linsey Cartmill, Rachel Parrish

What Is Deism? ◦ Deism is knowledge of God based on the application of our reason on the designs and laws found throughout Nature.

What Do Deists Believe? ◦ Deists believe that God created the world but afterwards no longer interfered with his creation. ◦ Deism is not Biblical. ◦ They believe that God does not interfere with his creation today based off of these questions: ◦ Why does God allow bad things to happen? ◦ Why does God allow the innocent to suffer? ◦ Why does God allow evil men to come to power?

What Are Some Deist Beliefs? ◦ Deists believe that God does not listen to or answer prayers. ◦ They believe that God does not perform miracles. ◦ The only path to knowledge is through logic and reasoning. ◦ Deists believe that God doesn’t have human feelings such as love, hate, happiness, etc. ◦ Some Deists believe that God has no interest in humans and is not even aware of our existence. ◦ They believe that God has not selected a chosen people. ◦ Most Deists believe God has left his creation behind and therefore prayer makes no sense to them, but some pray to express their appreciation to God for his works.

Key People ◦ Thomas Paine ◦ James Madison ◦ Thomas Jefferson ◦ Maximillian Robespierre ◦ Rousseau ◦ Voltaire
