The World Connected By Identity Crisis By: Victoria Madison

o “ These social sites behemoths are what we use to make our mark upon the world. If you do not have at least two of these accounts, you may as well have your birth certificate and social security number revoked. Functionally, you do not exist.” -Melanie Kim o All social media users have created a digital identity (photos posted, status updates…) How important is Social Media in our Culture?

How is Social Media affecting Identities in the US? o What people post follow them. When going for a job interview years down the road, future employers can potentially see it. o What is seen online creates an automatic opinion about that person o We live a status-driven culture that strives for attention, however negative attention from social media could potentially hurt someone’s identity.

Westernization affecting Cultures around the World o English has become a growing dominant language in a lot of other countries which is creating a lot of slang languages and also causing languages to disappear. o People have lost touch of their own culture norms but don’t necessarily identity with US culture so they are stuck in an identity crisis.

o Westernization and Social media are both causing children to question their identities at a young age because of what they see on social media sites. o Exposure at an Early age causes children to question their own customs. o American TV stars and what they post on Social Media is causing youth all over the world to want to be like them. Causing them to potentially change their views to line up with those of their favorite TV star. Social media and westernization affecting youths identity around the World
