ATLAS 1 Beam Pipe Support Structure (BPSS) Services Interface and Assembly Final Design Review, April 2003 E. Anderssen, N. Hartman, A Smith, LBNL S. Coelli, Milano

ATLAS 2 Services and Beam Pipe Support Structure Beam Pipe Support SCT Barrel TRT Forward Side CSide A Services and Beam Pipe Support Structure Pixel Detector Schematic of Beampipe, Support Structure, and Pixel Package in ID TRT Forward Beam Pipe Support Wire ID Endplug PP1 PST Support Flexures Insertion Trolley Beam Pipe Pixel Support Tube Package Insertion Riders Z=848 – Wire Support Z=3092 – PP1 Z=3120 – Adjustors PP1 Bellows/Temporary Support Z=~3200 – Bellows/Temp. Support

ATLAS 3 “Package” Beam Pipe Support Structure Pixel Detector Beam Pipe Service Panels PP1b Corrugated Panels installation configuration

ATLAS 4 Service Quarter Panel Service Quarter Panel structure carries Disk and Barrel panels as well as PP1 quarter panel on same structure This is the ‘installation configuration’ of the SQP—PP1b arrayed for insertion This configuration must be maintained in some sort of fixturing that is compatible with the ITT, to be designed

ATLAS 5 PP1b Corrugated Panels Routing for PP1 dominates the volume at the end of the Package Corrugated Panels proposed to support Cables at Large radius, terminate type 2 cables coming from trays inside of ID Endplate Adjustors Align with holes in BP Support Cruciform ~100mm inside of support Tool can grab ID of Adjustor Nut via slots—tool TBD

ATLAS 6 Patch Panel One Interface to BPSS PP1 Quarter Panel Seals Trantorque

ATLAS 7 PP1 Interface Continued Survey access is poor—R Veness has proposal to survey beampipe which is acceptable Temporary support of Beam Pipe is from ‘Can’ installed on inner radius of PP1, and supported by installed quarter panels Working on re-design of PP1 Quarter Panels, will finalize design, and include detailed modelling soon Fixation of service structure to PP1 Quarter Panel Breaks

ATLAS 8 PP0 End of Frame PP0 is not technically an interface to Beam Pipe but is a critical interface to BPSS Tube Routing does not interfere with Beampipe Adjustors as shown on figure to right. Note cooling tubes wrap around BPSS Barrel End Cruciform for flexibility

ATLAS 9 PP0 end of BPSS Interference between Trolley components and Services will be resolved in the final designs of Both Details will not affect BPSS

ATLAS 10 Assembly Continued—Services Added Service Panels Are Added to top of package Bottom of package has limited access due to ITT support structure Note that half of PP1 is assembled at this stage, and can be fastened together—Temporary support via PP1 is possible at this stage Installation of service panels requires a certain kinematics

ATLAS 11 Panel Installation Detail PP1 quarter plate is installed over the BPSS Adjustor Panel is slid to lower Z up to where tubes at PP0 are just at the Barrel Cruciform Panel is articulated out, likely by hand, to pass tubes over cruciform Panel is slid rest of way into position BPSS is fixed to PP1 via seals, trantorque PP1 panels are fastened to neighbors
