The Basics Projects –As you begin creating something in movie maker you are creating a project –A Project is not the same as a movie. A project is in the process of being created & can be edited, once you save your project as a movie you cannot edit your movie.

Pictures Importing Pictures –When working on a project that contains pictures you must import them into your project first –Import Pictures is located on the main task pane under Capture Video in movie maker It’s always a good idea to have all of your pictures for a project located in one folder.

Timeline –This indicates how long each “clip” or picture will last in your movie and shows the time amount. It is located along the bottom edge of your screen when you are in Movie Maker. You can switch between Timeline and Storyboard view.

Storyboard –When you are in the storyboard view you just see your picture or clip, the transition (if you have one) and the video effects (if you have any) –In storyboard view you can easily add transitions.

Music Importing Audio or Music –You import audio or music the same way you import pictures. –Import Audio or Music is located on the main task pane under Capture Video in Movie Maker. It’s always a good idea to have all of your audio or music for a project located in one folder.

Music Cont. Your music clips can be cut or spliced as you see fit. They can also be set to fade in or fade out, or if you have more than one, they can overlap each other.

Transitions –Transitions simply move you from one clip to another & prevent your movie from being too choppy –These are used in between clips. View Video Transitions is located in the main task pane under Edit Movie on Movie Maker

Transitions Cont. Once you’ve selected a transition you just click & drag the transition down into your project. You’ll probably want to be in Storyboard View at this point –***FYI—Every time the you add a transition your project will shorten, slightly.

Video Effects –These are added to change your actual clip. You tend to use these more when dealing with actual movie clips and less when dealing with pictures. View Video Effects is located in the main task pane under Edit Movie on Movie Maker

Video Effects Cont. You can add as many video effects to a clip as you like. To determine the order that your effects are in, you must right click on the clip in the storyboard view & you can arrange them there.

Titles or Credits You can include a title at the beginning of a your project to introduce your project Titles can also be added before, during, or after a clip. Credits are added at the end of your project, you usually want to give credit at this point.

Titles or Credits Cont. Make Titles or Credits are located under Edit Movie on the main task pane in Movie Maker.

Saving Your Project If you are not completely done with your project you don’t want to save it as a movie. When you save a project you just go to: –File  Save Project  and give your project a name

Finishing Your Movie In order to save your project as a movie you must do the following: –Under Finish Movie  Save to my computer  Browse to save it to My Videos  Next  Next REMEMBER: Once you save your project as a movie you cannot edit it.

Movie Maker Project I Rubric & Movie Breakdown are located on the Student Share Drive
