  California High School Exit Exam  A state exam that is mandatory to graduate high school  Tests concepts students have learned in Jr. High and High School.  Once students pass the exam, they have fulfilled the requirement What is CAHSEE?

 Structure of the exam English Language Arts (ELA) 79 Multiple Choice Questions One Writing Task (Essay) Topics Covered: Vocabulary Informational & Literary Reading Writing Strategies, Conventions, & Applications Math  92 Multiple Choice Questions  Topics Covered:  Number Sense  Statistics, Data Analysis, & Probability  Geometry & Measurement  Algebra I  Algebra Functions

  Passing: 350  Proficient: 380  Highest Possible: 450 Scoring

  All 10 th graders are required to take the exam in February  ELA: Tuesday 2/3/15  Math: Wednesday 2/4/15 When is the Exam?

  Our Goals: 1.To properly prepare and support every student for the exam 2.For every student to pass the first time 3.For students to test as proficient or higher (380+) 4.To make prep fun! Preparation Goals

  Each student will receive prep for the CAHSEE in both ELA and Math  Students will take a simulated standards test so we can tailor prep to YOUR student’s needs  Students will work on their individual prep beginning December 8 th  Official prep classes will run January 5 th -30th  Students will receive 5.0 credits for each prep class if they attend and participate fully Prep Classes

  Classes are mandatory  Attendance at the prep classes are considered a regular appointment  Grades will be Pass/Fail and given to the AR teacher as the work for the month  Consequences for missing a class and not completing work are the same as with your AR teacher Prep Class Guidelines

 To receive the full 5 credits each student must: 1.Attend EVERY class 2.Be on time! 3.Follow all regular school site rules 4.Complete work on time 5.Pass all unit tests 6.Participate in class discussions 7.Attend the 2 scheduled practices CAHSEE tests 8.Show up to the CAHSEE exam Prep Class Requirements

 Each student will sign up to be on a Team with a Coach for CaHSEE Prep in addition to the SGI teacher and their AR teacher. We are all here to support students to do what it takes to pass the CaHSEE in February. Prep Class Schedule

  Participating in Prep Classes twice a week is not sufficient to pass the exam!  Here are some ideas that students should do to properly prepare for the test: 1.Come to EVERY Prep Class 2.Study at least three hours every day at home 3.Complete practice tests 4.Complete all homework 5.Sleep well and eat well the day of the exam 6.Believe in yourself! 7.Practice test taking strategies 8.Ask for help right away when you need it.
