Six Weeks Exam O Vocabulary: O adieu, assimilate, bogus, malign, advent, exorbitant, intern, meander, inundate, & apex. O Grammar: O Prepositions & Phases O Linking Verbs O Action Verbs O Helping Verbs

Verbs O Lesson 2 Notes – Hand Out O Action or Linking Verb? O Substitution Test: Linking Verbs can be replaced with “to be” verbs (is, am, are, was, were, be, been, & being), if you can not replace it then you have an Action Verb. O Helping Verbs: Helping verbs are verbs that, as their name suggests, help the main verb in a sentence by extending the meaning of the verb. They add detail to how time is conveyed in a sentence.

Helping Verbs O A verb phrase consist of the main verb and any helping verbs that go with it. The maximum number of words in a verb phrase is four. O Will have been singing = Verb Phrase O “will” “have” and “been” are helping verbs. O The main verb, “singing” is an action verb.

Group Practice O Look at the 2, 3, & 4 as a group. O I will pick 3 different groups to present theirs on the board. O Check their answers – I may have at least one group intentionally add errors. O USE YOUR “Green Sheet” if you need help.
