Question Are some forms of inherited traits more common than others?

Hypothesis We think that left the thumb overlap, right handedness, and left arm overlap are going to have a better probability of occurring, because it is most common based on a sample survey of our fifth grade class.

Materials A pencil, eraser, table chart, science book, 1-6 grade students at MGS, and their information.

Control Variable Survey each student for every trait. The form of each trait is the variable that changes among the students you survey. The number of students with each trait is another variable.

Procedure 1. Make a chart for grades 1-6 to record their information. 2. Survey each student in each class for their traits. 3. Record the data on your charts.

MGS Table Minneapolis Grade school Heredity traits Traits Number of Students Right Thumb Overlap 97 Left Thumb Overlap 157 Right Handed 227 Left Handed 26 Left Arm Overlap 115 Right Arm Overlap 117

MGS Graph The most common traits in our school were right handedness and left thumb overlap. The most common traits in our school were right handedness and left thumb overlap. The left arm overlap and right arm overlap are equally common. The left arm overlap and right arm overlap are equally common.

Conclusion By looking at our graph we see that our hypothesis was correct, because left thumb overlap and right handedness were most common. The left and right arm overlap were equally common traits.
