INCLUSION SHINEWATER PRIMARY SCHOOL JOHN GREENWOOD

Behaviour Policy Clear rewards and sanctions Corporate responsibility Policy shared with ALL staff and PARENTS Behaviour logs scrutinised weekly, PRO-ACTIVE Conscious decision not to exclude if at all possible

Behaviour management What do you do with the children if you do not exclude? Differentiate between disruption in class and ‘playtime’ Adjust consequences Tell parents – phone if necessary We never ‘Let children off’ Employ support staff to ensure supervision Internal exclusion

Classroom management Ascertain the needs of the children – ASD, ADHD, OCD, attachment issues, etc. It is about INDIVIDUALS and their needs Adjust the classroom/activities/support levels ASD children may need an individual workstation Don’t set children up to fail Try different approaches until success is achieved and constantly review/adjust As leaders, get involved and give positive reward to staff

School management How do children move around the school? Playtimes – are they enjoyable? What systems are in place to support high expectations and excellent behaviour? What links do you have between the playground and classroom? How much time is wasted in dealing with behaviour? Both in the classroom and after play/lunchtime. The expectation is on learning and teaching. Are your expectations high enough?

Inclusion All children have a right to learn All staff have the responsibility to ensure learning We are the advocates for the children Engage the school council Listen to the children and do not assume you know what is happening on the ground Inclusion means NO EXCLUSION

No Exclusions Thank you for Listening
