Thunderstorms are these loud storms that have rain, strong winds and can produce lightning. Hail sometimes falls during a thunderstorm.

Thunderstorms are born from cumulus clouds. Masses of warm moist air are pushed upward by masses of cooler air.

Thunderstorms happen in the late afternoons and early evenings on warm days all over the world. In the United States, Florida has the most thunderstorms with rain falling about 90 days a year.

The worst storm ever recorded took place on May 5, 1995 in Fort Worth, Texas. Many victims were caught outdoors with no access to shelter. There were 70mph winds and hail the size of grapefruits. Damaged windshield

People should go inside and go to the basement. They shouldn’t drive during a thunderstorm.

Strong winds blow down trees, dents cars, and can start fires or kill crops.

The strongest thunderstorms are called supercells. Supercells can produce large strong winds and powerful tornadoes.

The average length of lighting that flashes between a cloud and the ground is about 3 or 4 miles.

Each day Earth experiences about 44,000 thunderstorms.
