 Expected Family Contribution (EFC): Determines the family’s ability to contribute towards the student’s education  (EFC Calculation ~ Same no matter what school student attends)  Grant and Loan eligibility

 Texas Excellence Grant:  First degree-seeking undergraduates  First come, first served  Graduated HS recommended or distinguished  Have EFC of $4000 or less  Must be a Texas resident  Must enroll at least ¾ time  Making Satisfactory Academic Progress  UTSA Grant:  First come, first served  Must be a Texas Resident  Need based UTSA

 Apply for General Scholarships with the General Scholarship Application  Freshmen -  Continuing Students –  Check with your college/department for other scholarships  Utilize Outside Donors  Surf the Net (  Check companies and community organizations  UTSA Outside Scholarship Form

 Subsidized Stafford Loan: Interest is paid by Department of Education while you are in school  Maximum per year = $3500  Unsubsidized Stafford Loan: Interest begins to accrue when the loan is taken out, so students must decide to make interest payments or allow interest to roll into principle balance  Maximum Sub/Unsub combined per year = $5500  Parent PLUS Loan: Parent credit worthiness is assessed; repayment begins 60 days after the second disbursement  Alternative Loan: Credit worthiness; Variable credit

 Federal, State, and Institutional Work Study available  Must state interest on FAFSA  Awarded to students with demonstrated need  Funds are limited for all three programs  Student should coordinate with the Career Center to find on-campus employment

 Available to first-time Freshmen, who are Texas residents  Annual family income and wages of $30,000 or less  Any assets must be worth less than $50,000  Guaranteed grants and / or scholarships to cover tuition and mandatory fees for 4 years  Must complete the FAFSA and be admitted to UTSA by the March 15 th Priority Deadline  Must complete 24 credit hours per academic year (at least 12 credit hours in Fall and Spring)  Must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA

 Must maintain a 2.0 Cumulative GPA  67% completion rate of attempted hours  i.e. Fall = 12 hours / Spring = 12 hours  Total Attempted = 24 hours  Must complete 17 hours  Maximum hours attempted must not exceed 1 ½ times the required number of hours necessary to earn degree  i.e. Undergraduate Program = 120 hours x 1.5 = 180 hours
