What are marshmallows made from? By Alice Hesmondhalgh

What are marshmallows made from? Things I already knew: They include sugar. There are different colors. They are made in a factory. They are puffy. They come in different sizes.

What are marshmallows made from? Subtopics I wanted to learn more about: How much sugar is in them? Is there a difference between white and pink? How are marshmallows made? When were they invented?

What are marshmallows made from? How and where I found the information: My Mom and Dad. The internet. A marshmallow package.

What are marshmallows made from? Marshmallows are made from: Sugar. Corn syrup. Water. Gelatin. Dextrose. Flavorings. Coloring.

What are marshmallows made from? Marshmallow history: The sap of the mallow plant was used to soothe sore throats hundreds of years ago. The mallow plant grew in marshes. It used to be whipped with sugar and eggs.

What are marshmallows made from? Marshmallows today: Are made in factories. The ingredients are mixed and whipped together, forced through a tube and cut into shapes. The ingredients can also be made into other shapes like Peeps. It is the whipping that makes marshmallows fluffy. Coloring is added to make them pink, white or other colors for Peeps.

What are marshmallows made from? Other odd marshmallow facts I found out: Americans eat about one pound of marshmallows each every year. Marshmallows have gelatin in them which is made from animal skin and bones. Marshmallows were in the movie Ghostbusters.

What are marshmallows made from? How to eat marshmallows: As candy. Over the fire and in s’mores. As Peeps. In Rice Krispie treats. In ice cream. In hot chocolate.

What are marshmallows made from? Please enjoy a sample of . . . Sugar. Corn syrup. Water. Gelatin. Dextrose. Flavorings. Coloring.
